Are you a qualified SENDCo with considerable experience in supporting children and young people (CYP) with SEND, interested in becoming a Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD)?
We have an exciting opportunity to work for both the Specialist Teacher Advisers and Cove Secondary Resource Provision. This innovative role will offer the opportunity to work in supportive, and outcome-focused multidisciplinary environments with excellent supervision and CPD opportunities.
The role is offered on Main/Upper Teacher's Pay Range plus SEN Allowance (SEN1 rising to SEN2 after achieving the mandatory qualification or completing two years of service). The role will be split as follows:
- 0.5FTE in The Cove School, Farnborough
- 0.5FTE for Specialist Teacher Advisory Service (STAS), Countywide, Hampshire. The role will involve travelling across Hampshire County, visiting schools and colleges mainly in the north of the County but with the need for flexibility to support team caseloads.
The Role:
You would join our team of Specialist Teacher Advisers within the Sensory Team, which is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Qualified Teachers of the Deaf and Vision Impaired as well as specialists including Deaf Instructors, Early Years Deaf Instructors and Qualified Habilitation Specialists.
The Sensory Team (Hearing Loss and Vision Impairment) work with children, their families, early year’s settings, schools (mainstream and special) and colleges. The Team provides advice and support to children and young people (CYP) with hearing or vision loss aged 0 - 25 to promote their access, communication development, inclusion, empowerment, progress and raising of educational achievement.
You will be required to travel to various locations within Hampshire, and it is essential that you have a current drivers’ licence and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.
The Teacher of the Deaf Role will uniquely be combined with Managing the Resource Provision at The Cove School in Farnborough. You will be committed to inclusion and making a difference to pupil outcomes at the school. You will appreciate the importance of teamwork and be able to lead a team within the school setting. You will work closely with an established SENCO and assist SENCO at the school and be supported by a range of other staff as well as your SLT line manager.
You will be responsible for the daily working for the resource provision, monitoring progress of designated students, providing technical support when required, and keeping parents informed of any concerns and general progress.
This joint role will involve undertaking the mandatory training to become a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD) which is a two-year commitment at Masters level and is a distance learning qualification. You will be given time within your role to study for the qualification.

Later you will attend an interview conducted by both School staff and STAS Senior Managers where you will be required to present the below 10-minute topic during the interview: “Please tell us what you feel you can bring to this role by describing one of your proudest achievements in school supporting children with an additional need.”
