Be Part of the Future of Rail
The railway in Britain is undergoing its most significant transformation in a generation, and Rail Delivery Group (RDG) is at the heart of this change. With the creation of Great British Railways (GBR), we are driving a new era of simpler, smarter, and more accessible ticketing, revolutionising how millions of people travel.
Our Future LENNON Programme team is leading the modernisation of the rail industry’s central system for tracking ticket sales and allocating revenue between train operators. This high-impact programme is transforming how data is processed and used across the industry, enabling faster, more accurate insights and improving the way revenue is shared. By migrating to cloud-based infrastructure and delivering new capabilities, the team is supporting smarter decision-making and laying the foundations for future innovation across the railway.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Project Manager to help lead a high-profile industry programme – the modernisation of LENNON, the rail industry’s central system for revenue allocation.
This is a unique opportunity to help deliver enhancements to a platform that is critical to the financial running of Britain’s railway. You’ll oversee the delivery of technical improvements, working closely with a third-party supplier and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the project runs smoothly and delivers clear benefits.
The enhancements will enable smarter, more accurate allocations based on real-life passenger journeys – a major step forward for the industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the planning and scheduling of project tasks, people, and resources
- Working closely with third-party suppliers and internal teams to align on deliverables
- Managing project scope, risks, changes, and dependencies
- Coordinating across multiple workstreams to maintain pace and quality
- Ensuring the project stays on time and on budget
- Monitoring outcomes to ensure the project delivers real, measurable benefits
- Collaborating with Train Operating Companies (TOCs), commercial and service delivery teams, and other industry partners
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a confident, adaptable Project Manager who is proactive, collaborative, and focused on delivering results. You’ll bring energy, curiosity, and a willingness to engage with different teams to get things done.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience managing complex technical projects using recognised delivery methodologies
- Proven track record of working with third-party suppliers and internal delivery functions
- Strong skills in project planning, risk management, scope control, and reporting
- Experience with project scheduling tools and techniques (time and resource)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Why Work for RDG?
We offer a highly competitive package, including:
- 75% off rail travel for personal and family use, plus international rail discounts.
- 30 days annual leave (plus buy/sell options and additional leave for key life events)
- Season ticket loan for commuting costs.
- Enhanced family leave – 30 weeks full pay for maternity, adoption, surrogacy, and shared parental leave.
- Pension scheme – up to 11.58% employer contribution.
- Private medical insurance (AXA PPP) including mental health and specialist care.
- Discounted gym membership and access to wellbeing programmes.
Career Development & Progression
This role offers real scope for progression. You’ll gain valuable experience delivering complex enhancements and working with a broad range of stakeholders. In time, this role could lead to larger and more strategic project or programme management roles within RDG.
The LENNON enhancements you’ll help deliver are a foundational part of the railway’s data and financial infrastructure. You’ll be supporting smarter decision-making across the industry, improving how revenue is allocated and helping operators better understand customer behaviour.
You’ll also gain significant experience delivering complex technical projects in a highly visible environment – an excellent opportunity to grow your project management skills and influence.
