About the Team
Quote API aims to be the single source of basket pricing logic within Tesco, globally across key channels online and in-store. The team plays an important role in powering the strategic Retail Platform in multiple countries and a key component in delivering major programmes such as Marketplace, Personalisation, F&F Clothing Online, Price Transformation, Tesco Till and continues to support key Online or In-Store expansions.
The Team is responsible for providing the pricing, promotions and tax logic to produce quotes and invoices for purchasing products across all channels and making Price and Promotion data available to all consumers, whether they are In-Store, Online or central systems.Quote is also responsible for executing Promotions and Coupons on tills, making sure the basket is calculated correctly and then providing this sales data back for central systems.
The programme team is based in Welwyn Garden City and Quote product/engineers are multi-located across Welwyn Garden City / UK and Spain etc
The Role -Technical Programme Manager
This is a cross functional role, coordinating development and delivery across multiple teams. Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:
- Deliver programmes with business and/or technical risks
- Owning the release plan and stakeholder communication
- Managing Risks and Issues and influencing multiple dependent teams
- Managing development: finances, resources, influencing technical direction and coordinating the development of business facing products for the Tesco stakeholders.
- Improving Agile practices across the team
- Optimise or use a standard programme delivery methodology for delivering programme goals (e.g. agile, waterfall, iterative)
- Bring together, coordinate, and energise local/virtual technology teams to deliver programme goals
- Understand trade-offs and resulting impacts; make impacts visible to Product, Infrastructure or Engineering for the right decision to be made
- Managing dependencies, delivery timelines and implementations plans, using my knowledge of technical architecture
- Appreciating and responding to delivery challenges, using my knowledge of engineering best practices and/or infrastructure implementations
- Effectively manage major incidents, ensuring stakeholders are updated with the right information to drive the correct decisions
- Coach peers and other roles, teaching where required, on methodologies and programme management tools
- This role will best suit an individual who enjoys working as part of a team, is well organised, pragmatic and a lateral thinker with an inquisitive mind who is motivated to make change for the better and, most importantly, puts our customers first.
Current Key Programmes in Team
- Retail Platform in Central Europe: Rolling out key APIs/systems including Quote to Central Europe
- Marketplace / F&F: building new capabilities and expanding our grocery platform around selling non-grocery items from different suppliers along Tesco own. One area focuses on F&F clothing especially.
- Personalisation: APIs in the Quote team provide the Price and Promotion data for Product display and also in accurate basket calculation.
- Technical Strategy: building capabilities and processes to deal with ever growing team demands which also covers ways of working and using AI
You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:
•A knowledge of Agile methodology and a record of producing positive change in teams
•A proven track record of delivery of complex technology across multiple teams and influencing product, engineering and business colleagues
•Working effectively with and leading multi-disciplinary teams and understanding how to contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle.
•Thinking at a conceptual level across a number of platforms
•Ability to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience.

•Able to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership
