Saturday 05:00 – 11:00

Job Purpose:
To direct and control the movements of vehicles at a service centre, these include light commercial vehicles and large goods vehicles entering and exiting the “Despatch” yard.
Traffic Management
The Banksman is in charge of helping manage the traffic flow, movement and direction of site vehicles. By doing so;
He/she assists the management team in the creation of safe systems of operation for vehicle and pedestrian movements in and out of the yard areas.
At peak times, he/she assists and guides drivers in their duties of manoeuvring vehicles into and out of designated parking / loading / unloading areas
At peak times he/she is required to manage and control the safe interaction of pedestrians and vehicles on the bay and in the yard areas.
Bring to the attention of site management where colleagues, visiting drivers or visitors fail to follow their instruction, or operate safely
As there is a lot of movement on the site, the banksman is an essential part of the smooth flow of operations.
Objectives:
To plan and agree the safe methods of operation for the transport and yard in conjunction with the Fleet & Transport Manager, Driver Team Manager and H&S and Compliance Manager
To complete or assist in the completion of the relevant Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work for the areas under your direct control
To directly control the peak activity times as specified by the Risk Assessments, this includes the direction of vehicles and pedestrians working in these areas
In conjunction with and supported by the Management Team actively endorse, promote and manage our IIP culture and status.
Support the Warehouse & Transport Management Teams in achieving departmental and company objectives
Carry out any reasonable request as determined by the Service Centre Management Team promoting and supporting company initiatives
To ensure that the transport yard is clean and clear of any rubbish
To assist the despatch porters with bringing in empty totes into the warehouse that have been brought back by drivers following there morning deliveries
To assist with the cleaning of soiled totes that have been returned from driver deliveries
To assist with other departments where needed

Formal Banksman training is required – this is not a prerequisite to securing the position as full training will be given.
The ability to act as the site trainer for cascading Banksman training to other colleagues working in these areas.

On completion of training this role does have some autonomy in decision making, within limits set by company policy and the Driver Team Manager.

Additional Information:
An element of flexibility will be required in relation to overtime, which may include full days, Saturdays and Bank Holiday working where necessary to meet the needs of the business. This will be agreed and with as much notice as possible, as per the Staff Handbook.
Elements of overtime within other roles will be required.
