We are recruiting for an experienced Tax Director to join our diverse National Finance & Administration team for the UK and Ireland’s 4th largest grocer!
As Tax Director, you will be accountable for providing leadership, vision, and direction for all taxes of both the UK and IE business. You will be the most senior tax specialist for the UK and IE business, driving strategic direction whilst maintaining compliance in both jurisdictions. Furthermore, you will be responsible for overseeing an excellent team of 8 individuals, with 3 direct reports, providing an opportunity and environment for growth and development.
The tax department is part of a wider National Finance and Administration function, where you will be expected to provide critical commercial insight and understanding as part of the senior finance leadership team.

Your New Role
- Manage and oversee Tax Control Framework in the UK and IE for all Taxes, including, but not limited to the following: Senior Accounting Officer, Corporate Criminal Offence, Directors Compliance Statement, Tax Strategy, Cooperative Compliance Framework
- Maintain and promote good working relationships with Tax Authorities in both the UK and IE, as well as external advisors
- Responsibility for 3 direct reports and wider team
- Horizon scanning relevant changes in tax legislation or guidance to be communicated to senior stakeholders and stakeholders throughout the business
- In-house tax consultant to all departments throughout the business to support on changes in operations or structure
- Responsible for final sign-off of tax numbers and disclosures in the annual financial statements for the UK and IE
- Perform the final review and sign-off of the tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate filings in the UK and IE
- Responsible for driving technology improvements within the compliance processes
- Responsible for sign-off of Transfer Pricing document for the UK and IE
- Provide Transfer Pricing support across the UK and IE business
- Work closely with International Finance and Administration to consider Transfer Pricing risks and opportunities
- Collaborate and cooperate with International Tax Working Group to consider OECD developments and wider International Tax topics
- Responsible for final review and sign-off of the tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate filings in the UK and IE
- Lead negotiations with Tax Authorities in relation to indirect tax matters, making appropriate use of advisors and ensuring optimal and expedient resolution of issues
- Responsible for driving technology improvements within the compliance processes
- Provide employment tax oversight and support, focusing on: Global Mobility, PSA, IR35, NMW
- Responsible for accurate and timely filing of: CIS, RCT, SSDT, E-levy, SDIL
- Provide support and oversight to the wider business on: Customs and Excise, PPT, CBAM
About You
- Experience within a Senior Leadership role
- Degree (or equivalent) in related field
- ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified or equivalent
- Significant experience working within a tax environment
- Strong knowledge of UK direct and indirect taxes and ability to integrate the two
- Strong background in managing Tax Compliance Framework in large multinational business
- Knowledge of international taxes, concepts, and OECD developments
- Awareness of wider taxes, including Customs and Excise
- Confident and high energy individual, with a desire to make a difference
- Excellent engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to gain the confidence of senior management as well as provide challenge
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment
- Excellent communication skills and commercial mindset
- Strategic leadership of function establishing long- and short-term strategies
- A strong change agent, looking to identify opportunities for improvements in all areas of the function
- Proven experience as a highly effective leader responsible for development of people and function
- Excellent analytical skills, and strong eye for detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results.
- Previous experience of working in Retail is an advantage
